「 invaded it on 6:36 AM 」
I went back to help out in my old school's BB (boys brigade) June Fun Camp. And, I'm surprised to say how the generations below me have been 'well-brought up'.
the camp was centered around The Amazing Race, so the boys had to race around parts of Singapore to get clues etc etc.. so i took a team and they head out to Pulau Ubin.
on the island, my team tells me they all can cycle (if one member couldnt, they had to walk around the island on foot). But once they rented their bikes, one of them has trouble taking off. I asked him: 'Can u cycle?' He replies: 'No I can't sir. i forgot how to!'
I stare at him in complete 100% bewilderment. cos racing in my mind was this thought: HOW IN THE BLUE WORLD DOES ONE FORGET HOW TO CYCLE??
Sensing that I was about to tell him off, the team leader brings him back to switch to a 2 seater bike. So that was part one.. the race around Pulau Ubin was filled with heavy drizzle, scratches and bruises, some boys completely getting lost and dirty muddy shirts. Then part 2 comes after we got off the island..
My team finishes 4th out of the 8 teams that started, so it was really good. I brought my team for some supper at Zion Riverside food centre. So while eating our food, one of the boys who was in sec 1 asked if i played DOTA.
'Nope, I don't,' i told him. 'Why sir?' he asks. 'Well, I played it actually before, but after awhile, i got bored of it.'
The boy can't believe what he just heard. 'Wahhh tell that to Ray ah (sec 2 boy in my team) and he confirm tell you off.'
I decided to tell him my honest opinion of DOTA 'DOTA eats away your life'
Ray comes back and doesnt hear what I just said, and engages in a convo with the sec 1 boy. 'DOTA? Waahh i play everyday 8-6pm'
The sec 1 reiterates: '8-6? i play from 9am - 12 midnight. Parents go work, they come back, i still playing. I come out only to eat then go back and GG people.'
................. i rest my case
Part 3 was the next day.
I was camera man, filming each team's progress for the entire day. At night, me and the other officers decided to bring them out for another supper session. Some boys suggested going to Great World City, which one boy reasoned this: 'GO MACS! Hawker food no air con, no fries.'
At this point, I'm really wondering whether all the boys eat pasta or some exquisite food every day for their meals.
So it hits me that these special bunch of boys have been brought up to the point where they have been spoilt. OH YES. Online gaming addicts that complain cycling is too tiring, hawker food = rubbish and macs = heaven food enthusiasts and boys that take life too easy.
goodness. im quite shocked that they are from a prestigious well known school. so these are the future school boys? brillant i say.
anyhow, besides being shocked by them, i had fun catching up with the other officers. maybe i'll go back and serve more.
