「 invaded it on 2:17 AM 」
field camp, the most shiong thing in BMT, has been done and dusted. what an eventful 6 days. sure, i was cursing and mumbling about spending 6 days in the mosquito/wild boar infested forests of Tekong. but deep within me, i always knew that at the end of it, I would definitely say: it was fun as hell.
and sure it was. no doubts.
i will never forget these:
- everyone mass stripping enthusiastically and powder-bathing themselves everywhere until their balls burn with 'pleasure' ;D
- sleeping next to a live orchestra every night (aka my buddy). He had different tunes everytime. I tried nudging him to shut his mouth, even to the extent of shining my torchlight at his face and closing his mouth. Then only to hear 5 seconds later, the loud bass and occasionally the trumpets. -__-
- our sergeant major briefing us on ignoring laughter or cries of small lil children at night. right at that moment, a cold wind blew. he exclaimed: 'what a f**kin nice feeling!'
- One of the platoons had adopted a code word to wake everyone up whenever there was an 'attack' while we were sleeping. On the 3rd night, the sergeants attacked and that particular platoon screamed 'RAYMOND! RAYMOND! RAYMOND!' in cold bloody murder. Everyone got confused and soon the entire forest sung 'RAYMOND RAYMOND RAYMOND!'
- On the last night, I had to go. I had endured the tingling pain in my arse for 5 days and had planned to nicely dump it all out when I returned back to the bunk. But I just couldn't. So me and one of my section mates went near the toilet area and I picked a spot. Halfway through me business, I heard wild boar snorting coming from my right. And daymn the noise was getting louder by the minute. Panicking a lil, I quickly shit all there was, wiped my arse and got the hell outta there. (well selfish, but i wasnt the only one xD. our officer told us alot of shit was found everywhere and he punished us with push-ups)
- digging my own grave (shell-scrap. basically, a hole in the ground for u to take cover in case of artillery fire) for 4 hours flat. my back died.
- on the last day, it poured but we were soaked in wet sand as we crawled 100m with live machine gun rounds firing above us. Our platoon sergeant took the fire hose and he massed cleaned us like we macham refugees. But everyone didnt mind as we all were darn happy that field camp was over.
yeah, it was fun. but i would say this: you are blessed not to have hold a rifle.
because seriously, even if u have been trained in all aspects of weapon shootings and handling, will u be able to fire when u see the enemy in front of you?
chances are, you'll be scared shit in your pants and will hesitate to put the trigger. we guys have the 'chance' of doing that whilst serving. in a way, u can thank us for doing our part for the country. but please, it isn't a cool to hold a weapon.
i hope to the highest hope i'll get posted to somewhere that doesnt involve me holding any types of firearms after BMT.

「 invaded it on 12:22 AM 」
it's been 3 weeks of training, sweating, tekaning, running, route-marching, shooting and sleeping in the place known as the Island. P.T Island. how appropriate. cos when the sgts are tekaning, they always say the same thing:
'remember, this is not TEKAN SESSION. This is Physical Education!'
then we proceed with 10 counts of 4 push-ups and if we're slow, we switch to jumping jacks with 20 counts of 4. all the better if we wearing our LBV vest and our heavy m16s rifles.
but learning new things can be fun. like urban operations, where groups of 3 will make their way tactically through a building. they will execute standard 'storming/scanning the room' procedures and fire blanks at target enemy boards. like the bobo guy in my group, when he charged in screaming like a mad psycho when i just threw in my 'grenade' into a room. or someone putting the rifle into auto-fire mode when SIR already said 1039485 times DO NOT PUT ON AUTO-FIRE MODE.
i guess so far its been quite fun looking back at it. though i still cannot forgive the fact that 18 year/19 year old guys, full of potential, no matter who they are, slave 2 years of their youths to the Army. Majority will go on and ORD, while the minority may sign on. so u see, its only a handful that go on to become professional soldiers. which proves the point that being an Army regular isnt all that attractive. The good pay is an incentive, BUT, there are also other jobs out there with better pay. And that is where I want to head for when 2009 approaches.
